Toshiba PORTEGE HDD Recovery

This blog is on Toshiba Portege M500
when you need to reset to Factory Default


This procedure is only for those models that come installed with the "Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility"

Something strange happens to Toshiba Portege ?? ..when you click the All programs menu in the start menu, nothing comes up. The programs are not displayed. And the right click on start menu is also not functioning. You tried to fix it by reducing the memory usage, uninstalling some of the programs, disk cleanup with anti virus and antispyware. But still problem exists. So you are unable to launch / open any programs.


YOUR FIRST ATTEMPT IS TO RESTORE


Step 1 - Open run type msconfig.


step 2. click boot.ini and this will reboot the laptop to "Safe Mode"
try to restore to last know best configuration to see it works .

How to use the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility.

1- To get a list of available " Recovery Methods" hold down the <0> (zero) key while booting the notebook.
* While the <0> (zero) key is being held down, press and hold the power button down for 1 second.
* Do not release your finger on the <0> (zero) key until the Toshiba logo Screen appears.

* Once the Toshiba logo screen appears, release the <0> (zero) key

cLICK to continue or to cancel.

2-From the menu shown above select the desired "Recovery Method".

* Select <1> "Recovery to the purchase state" to restore the notebook to the configuration at the purchase state. This method will delete all partitions and you will lose all data in your hard drive. Select to continue or to cancel.


Select <2> "Recovery without changing partition size" to restore the notebook by deleting only the first partition (c:\ ). The other partitions will remain untouched. Press to continue and to cancel.

Laptop will now reboot and please continue to setup Windows XP as shown below
