Gave Gerald a letter for his “shaved head” and was glad that the principal approved him wearing a cap at school. Bald to win!! Yes, he won $20 from his classmate for keeping his bargain they he will shave his head.
Letter to the Teacher “Due to severe itching and flaking of the scalp,Gerald Tao has shaved his head bald over the weekend. At this point, since his scalp is more vulnerable to getting sunburned I would appreciate if you would allow him to wear a cap whenever necessary. Your kind understanding in this matter would be greatly appreciated.”
Went to Straits Kitchen at Hyatt Singapore to meet up with Esther Tang. Buffet Dinner starts 6.30 pm with no FREE Drinks on the house. A smart move to make money from suckers. Hungry Ghost month drew to an end.
Mid-Autumn Festival (also the Mooncake or Lantern Festival)
Mid-Autumn Festival takes place from early September to early October and celebrates the end of the farming year and an abundant harvest. The mooncakes signify unity and a cycle completed.

Hokkien Style Mooncakes
The Hokkien one resembles the "tau sar piah" (flaky skin mung bean biscuit). Instead of being packed in square boxes, the Hokkien version comes wrapped in red and white paper in a long cylindrical roll. But not many places sell this now.
Niu Jiao Jian (Bull's Horn)
'Niu Jiao Jian' (Bull's Horn) for the simple reason because it truly resembles a bull's horn. The thick black shell of this nut has to be hammered to be broken open. Once cracked, it reveals a creamy white nut inside. This peculiar food is only available during the mid-autumn season. I hope to find this in the market this year and shall ask my maid to steam it . Yummy !
Little Yams
Only sold during the Mid-Autumn Festival. These miniature yams are softer and more fluffy than their bigger siblings. It's also one of those foods that families used to eat along with the Bull's Horns and mooncakes. Best eaten steaming hot - peel back the skin and dip the yam into granulated sugar with every mouthful.
Piglet Biscuits
Known by the Cantonese as "Jue Zai Bang" (Piglet Biscuits), these are traditionally sold with mooncakes, mainly to attract the kids. Why the baked biscuits are shaped in the form of piglets is anyone's guess, but the colorful plastic baskets they come in sure reminds one of real pigs trapped in rattan baskets, ready for the slaughter. In any case, these piglet biscuits sure bring back the good old' memories of childhood.
Pomelo
The word for pomelo in Chinese is homophonous with that for "blessing," and thus the fruit is considered auspicious. Since pomelo season coincides with Mid-Autumn Festival, this sweet fruit has naturally become a part of the festivities.
