In modern Singapore filial piety is seriously lacking. Sad to say some children are doing well in and obtain material means for themselves but not to the parent’s .Many don’t show the love, respect and show support to their aged parents. How many “Silver “and “Golden” aged generations are in this predicament?? In my option Filial piety is considered the first virtue that should be taught in school. As the saying goes “We can always get another son, but it is impossible to get another mother or father” Natural feeling for the aged has often been neglected due to modernization in our society. Let’s try our best to teach our future generation to maintain and upkeep the value of our rational morality and filial piety through education.
This is the latest initiative by the National Family Council to encourage Singaporeans to spend more time with their family is a move in the right direction. It's a excellent move to bring the family closer .Starting 2008, every fourth Saturday of May will be designated as Singapore's 'Family Day Out'. In my opinion there is no need to declare the fourth Saturday of May as Family Day out .Children please try to do it on alternate weekend,. How long can your aged parent lived??
