Product Description:

D-Link, an industry leader in networking, introduces another performance breakthrough in wireless connectivity - the AirPlus G DWL-G730AP Wireless Pocket Router/AP . The DWL-G730AP is a portable and convenient wireless solution for the traveling business person delivering 802.11g wireless connectivity with a maximum wireless signal rate of up to 54Mbps*. Use it in conference rooms, hotel rooms, or even at hotspots.
The Wireless Pocket Router/AP might be small in size, but is huge in functionality. The DWL-G730AP supports multiple operation modes including: Access Point (AP) mode to create a wireless connection; Router mode to share an Internet connection; and Wireless Client mode to connect an existing wireless network. Easily switch between these modes by using the 3-way configuration switch located at the bottom.
In AP mode, the DWL-G730AP can be used to create a wireless network in a room where a single Ethernet port is provided. Now multiple wireless clients can connect to the network at the same time to share resources and files.
In Router mode, the DWL-G730AP can be used to share a single broadband Internet connection, such as in a hotel room. The internal DHCP server automatically assigns IP addresses to ensure everyone in the room can connect to the Internet. In addition, the DWL-G730AP supports VPN Pass-through and firewall features including Network Address Translation (NAT) and MAC filtering to protect your wireless network from malicious attacks.
When set in Wireless Client mode, the DWL-G730AP allows connection to an existing wireless network, without having to install complicated drivers or additional software. For added mobility, the DWL-G730AP can be powered over USB if power outlets are not available.
The Pocket Router/AP supports WPA-PSK to secure your wireless data communications. In AP mode, the DWL-G730AP adds support for 802.1x user authentication with an external RADIUS server. For setup and configuration the DWL-G730AP can be accessed via D-Links user-friendly Web-based utility.
Easy to pack and convenient for traveling, the DWL-G730AP comes with an attractive traveling case which also provides accessories including cables and a power adapter. Increase productivity and enjoy the benefits of wireless connectivity while on the road with D-Links Pocket Router/AP.
* Maximum wireless signal rate based on IEEE Standard 802.11g specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors lower actual data throughput rate.

Start, Run , msconfig.exe will show many services running. But what are the good ones and what are the bad ones (malware)?

It is best to be guided by evaluations of experts and here are some useful sources of such information:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation

If you are one of those who found that Windows Updates were not installed successfully after you attempted a repair of your Windows XP installation, please see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144/en-us for the Symptoms, Cause, and Resolution.

Cause
This problem occurs because of how the Windows XP repair operation replaces Windows system files. When you repair a Windows installation by using a Windows XP CD, the repair operation performs both of the following operations:
• It replaces all the Windows system files with the corresponding files from the CD.
Note This includes the Windows Update files.
• It restores the Windows registry.
The latest version of Windows Update includes a file that was not available in the release version of Windows XP. This file is named Wups2.dll. Therefore, after the repair operation is complete, the following situation exists:
• The Wups2.dll file remains on the computer.
• The registry entries that correspond to this file are missing.
Because the registry files that correspond to the Wups2.dll file are missing, update installations are unsuccessful.

"Excel Can't Multiply" article by AppScout

http://www.appscout.com/2007/09/excel_cant_multiply.php

"We all learned how to multiply with pencil and paper, even great big numbers and decimals. But when it comes to something important like a blueprint or a scientific formula we reach for a calculator - or a spreadsheet. That's much more reliable, right? Well, not if the spreadsheet is Excel 2007. Over the weekend a member of the microsoft.public.excel newsgroup revealed that Excel 2007 thinks that 850*77.1 is 100,000. What's the correct answer? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Anybody? Right, it should be 65,535. Other members verified that the error carries over into some (but not all) calculations based on the incorrect result. Microsoft has been informed of the bug . . . "

UPDATE: Microsoft recognizes the problem and assures us that Excel Will Learn to Multiply.

http://www.appscout.com/2007/09/excel_will_learn_to_multiply.php
Microsoft is now aware of the problem, and had this to say about it:
"Microsoft recently learned of the flaw in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 that affects some calculations where the product should equal 65,535. We are currently in the process of developing and testing a fix for the flaw. Microsoft places a high priority on quickly responding to customer feedback and we are committed to finding ways to provide a better software experience."

GOOD NEWS: The Excel team has dissected the problem in detail and is working feverishly to swat this Excel bug.

http://www.appscout.com/2007/09/microsoft_to_swat_excel_bug.php
Initially it just seemed that Excel Can't Multiply. The bad news is, Excel can't do other operations correctly either. The good news is, this is only true when the results are within a very specific range of numbers. And the better news is that the Excel team has mapped out the nature of the problem and is feverishly working on an update.

Nature of the problem : http://blogs.msdn.com/excel/archive/2007/09/25/calculation-issue-update.aspx

So what went wrong? It all boils down to the fact that you can't represent an infinite group of non-integer numbers using a finite number of bits. In fact, Excel can store "only" about nine quintillion distinct values. The numbers going into your calculations may be infinitesimally different from the number displayed, and for two calculations that nominally have the same answer the result may be infinitesimally different. Excel generally manages just fine in dealing with these tiny differences, but in exactly 12 instances out of the nine quintillion possibilities it goes completely bonkers.

The Excel team discovered that it wasn't just calculations involving 65,535 that were affected; those that should come out to be 65,536 were also sometimes wrong (returning 100,001 instead). And they discovered it wasn't just multiplication. In truth, the operation didn't matter, only the result. When they work up a fix it will still have to "make its way through our official build lab and onto a download site", but they expect it to happen soon.
