(1) Mirko Grabovac giving up his Red passport and re-becoming a Croatian citizen,
(2) Li Jia Wei marrying Beijing businessman
Grobavac is the 2nd footballer that has renounced his singapore citizen to return to his native country - Egmar Goncalves did the same last year to return to Brazil. Grobavic is reported to have earn enough money for a house and apartment back in Croatia. (I'm mindful that the cost of living & cost of real estate is lower over there cf to Singapore).
LJW is think that she is a Chinese Citizen (中国人) and home is Beijing. She said this herself over CCTV4 during Olympics. Now that she is (going) to marry another native Beijing businessman that is able to "buy a house after they got married" (that is the her parent's condition).
So my question is .. what will be "stopping" LJW to return to China as an ex-Singaporean after she earns her pot of gold here in Singapore. Her parent are still in Beijing, she is still very attached to them and she is marrying another Beijing native AND she does not have any emotional tie to this island.
Egmar, Grobavac and a few Chinese field atheletes have all packed up after earning their provebial pot of gold respectively. I hope to wrong ... but I'm sure there will be some in the current FTS will leave us for good for sure in the futue.
So, what is the Singapore Governmnent and Sports Ministry going to do about it? Throwing moremoney to "buy" a piece of sports history with some insincere, gold-digger foreign talent or putting in more effort to develop some REAL LOCAL potential?
I'm for welcoming new immigrants into Singapore and treat them like our own. Afterall, my parents came from southern China many decades ago. But the difference is, my parents do not look back to China as their home. They set up their family and brought up their children here in Singapore. How many of these foreign talents will do likewise.
Mr Wong Kan Seng and Mr Teo Ser Luck, I hope you or your designate are reading this and work to ensure the 4 million Singaporeans are not taken for a ride and be the laughing stock within the global sporting faternity.

IMHO..FOREIGN TALENTS POLICY is a waste of money and effort. Many Singaporean are not convinced that foreign talent will benefit the locals and aid in Singapore's economy. LET'S FACE THE FACT.. that many foreign talents, coming here to earn "pot of gold" obtain citizenship then leave Singapore back to their motherland. It is high time that our Government re-examine the Foreign Talents Policy . While dual citizenship is not allowed in Singapore there are many locals and Foreign talents holding two or even more citizenship. "Best of both worlds ".
MIRKO GRABOVAC arrived in Singapore in 1999 and receives his Singapore citizenship in 2002 at the age of 31 . Superfast to be a Singaporean and it took me 10 years to receive mine ! WTFQUOTE
