It's Official: Windows 7 Shipping Mid-2009

We've all sort of known that Windows 7 would be released in 2009, but Microsoft made the firmest statements to date on the topic. In a technical session on Thursday, the company outlined that Windows 7 software would ship mid-year 2009 with pre-configured Windows 7 systems shipping in time for the 2009 holiday season. (Note, the company still hedges a bit by saying "within three years of January 2007.")

http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10084486-56.html dated 6th November 2008

In a technical session on Thursday afternoon, Microsoft provided the clearest public indication that it is planning on getting Windows 7 completed in time to run on PCs that ship for next year's holiday buying season.

Paul Thurrott : " . . . I expect it to ship by the end of summer 2009 at the latest, just in time to make a dramatic impact on the holiday 2009 selling season."

Puppy Linux, SUPERAntiSpyware 4.1,AVG Anti-Virus Free 8.0,digiskin,vital computer

Release of Puppy Linux 4.0 on 5th May 2008

http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=puppy

About Puppy Linux
Yes, Puppy Linux is yet another Linux distribution. What's different here is that Puppy is extraordinarily small, yet quite full featured. Puppy boots into a 64MB ramdisk, and that's it, the whole caboodle runs in RAM. Unlike live CD distributions that have to keep pulling stuff off the CD, Puppy in its entirety loads into RAM. This means that all applications start in the blink of an eye and respond to user input instantly. Puppy Linux has the ability to boot off a flash card or any USB memory device, CDROM, Zip disk or LS/120/240 Superdisk, floppy disks, internal hard drive. It can even use a multisession formatted CD-R/DVD-R to save everything back to the CD/DVD with no hard drive required at all!

A Virtualized Linux System For Windows

Ulteo had unveiled their Virtual Desktop which is a free, full Linux desktop that runs seamlessly on Windows. It's interesting because it's not running under Xen or VMWare, but instead uses the coLinux patch, which they claim allows the system to achieve 'great performance, close to a native installation on the PC.' No need to reboot the system anymore to switch from Windows to Linux.
