An article on Best Country to Emigrate to !!

One has to know and be brutally honest with oneself and family when contemplating emigration. Make sure you remove your rose coloured glasses before deciding where to drop anchor for the rest of your life. It's hard to return to Singapore to resume your previous lifestyle after you leave, assuming you retain S'pore citizenship.

When contemplating emigration, I considered primarily English speaking countries (perhaps it was narrow of me) and a few spots in Western Europe.

Ruled out Australia: too close to potential political instability and environmental disaster (i.e. Indonesia). Australia is drying and burning up and will soon run short of water. The Australian accent also grates on my nerves. Don't care for lamb - stinks up the armpits!! But if you like surfing, guzzling beer, walking about the beach without a shirt, and are allergic to work, good ole Oz might suit you just fine. Australians have a great sense of humour and won't be offended. All the same don't repeat this in a red neck bar.

Ruled out New Zealand: too remote. Economic opportunities are also rather limited because of the tiny population base. Lamb!! Kiwi's are great people though.

Ruled out the UK: The quality of life is poor and the climate is ugly. British employers are stingy - and class consciousness doesn't appeal to me. Penny pinching and wearing paper collars are no fun. British free speech and comedy is good though. I hear there's good curry to be had as well - but it's bad for acid reflux.

Missed Ireland: I actually forgot to consider the Emerald Isles - or was it because Angela's Ashes scared the Guinness out of me? I'm very fond of the Irish. Think their accent is cool.

Ruled out Sweden as soon as Ford bought Volvo and GM acquired SAAB. Never was too fond of IKEA- kitchen cabinets - now there's quality!! Swedes play great ice-hockey which I find most entertaining.

Ruled out Finland (see New Zealand minus the lamb). Poste Panke (i.e. the local equivalent of the POSB) are about the only Finnish words I can pronounce next to Oy (company) and Nokia. Every second woman is named Sirpa (which makes dating quite convenient really) and every second man is called Pekka (how rude!)

Ruled out Switzerland, Germany, Austra, Belgium, Denmark and Holland: Too serious.

Ruled out France and Italy: Not serious enough.

Ruled out Portugal: don't care for shrimp jokes. Learning Portuguese didn't seem worth the effort given that its useless practically everywhere else.

Spain: I'm considering retirement there. Spanish is a very useful language. Latin America is the next great growth region. 30% of US nationals are Spanish speaking.

Russia: Are you crazy? Worked there for a couple of years - lucky not to have pickled my liver or got kidnapped and murdered.

Strongly considered the US. Could have lived there. It's truly the land of opportunity, expensive health insurance notwithstanding. Didn't and don't like gun culture though. Didn't like the idea of my kids being drafted for combat - which is always a possibility with Uncle Sam.

Canada. By default - simply the best place on earth. Mind you, you'd better pick the city that caters best to your lifestyle. Winnipeg (Winnie the Pooh was named in honour of Winnipeg) and the prairies are so flat that you can watch your dog run away for 3 days.

Australian on Drug charges in Singapore

Melbourne weather looks gloomy for the next few days ! Getting colder- 4 C by Wednesday 23 July 2008 .Too cold to do any work here ! Am going into Hibernation : lower body temperature, and lower metabolic rate. How to work when you hands and legs are too cold for comfort ? Wrong timing and wrong place .

In Australian Newspaper to-day 's headline ABC STAR DRUG ARREST .

CLICK TO READ ON !!

Lloyd faces jail and mandatory caning if convicted.Still, many led off with the fact that Lloyd faces jail and caning the maximum penalty is 20 years' imprisonment and 15 strokes with an ABC report remarking on Singapore's "draconian" drug laws being among the harshest in the world.

The last time a media storm broke out was in 2005 when Nguyen, an Australian immigrant of Vietnamese descent, was convicted and hung after he was found to be carrying almost 400 grams of heroin at Changi Airport in late 2002.

Good Luck Lloyd and may God bless you .. Hope the sentence is not too harsh on you .

The combination of heat generated by the computers and the posture needed to balance the equipment on the lap leads to raised temperatures around the scrotum, a study has found. Past research shows that higher scrotal temperatures can damage sperm and affect fertility. Now the growing popularity of laptops could also affect sperm production. So buy a laptop stand . Haha

Long queue this morning at Safeway people buying Coke and Zero Coke for $13.98 for 30 cans which work out to be 47 cents per can .You are not allowed to buy more than 10 cartons . One Trader was grumbling that as a grocery owner he was not able to get this kind of price direct from Coke distributor . What the fuss about the policy that you are not allowed to buy 10 cartons . So simple, load 10 cartons in your car and come back to buy more !

Australia racial discrimation !

Australia, land of the fair go (as long as you're not foreign)
The Age Page 13 JUly 18,2008

Sometime ago I voiced about racial discriminations in Overseas Singaporean Portal they think am talking nonsense but in to-days Age the article confirmed that it is indeed true .The evidence is quite clear . Australian qualifications don't help .

Where the fair go ??
click on the article for enlarge version .

Quote : You have to change your name to ones that sound Anglo-Saxon before you win an interview . Unavoidable I guess .

No wonder Singapore Minister of Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew changed his name to Harry Lee while studying in London . Perhaps I should change my name to Mr. Kangaroo . Come on Australia give us Asian and other nationalities a "fair go" !

Discrimination means treating someone unfairly or unfavorably because of a personal characteristic such as their sex or race or age. Under the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic), it is against the law to discriminate against someone because of their actual or assumed.

Melbourne is known for its safe, clean environment; its affordable cost of living; extensive public transport system; pleasant climate and the quality of its housing and education. YES/NO

Melbourne’s three million residents come from all over the world, and their cultural, religious and racial backgrounds .

The standard of living is amongst the highest in the world. It is an "affordable" city in which to live with living costs being considerably less expensive than some other Australian cities and that of the United State of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK).

Swanee River !!

The Florida State Song !

"Old Folks at Home," also known by the words of its first line, "(Way Down Upon the) Swanee River," is a song written in 1851 by composer Stephen Foster.

This song is seen by some as showing racism about black Americans for its imitation of Black English Vernacular (the song is sung from the perspective of a black man), with its original lyrics referring to "darkies" and "a-longin' for the old plantation."
Anyway , we sang this song in school when I was young .

Way down upon the Swanee River,
Far, far away
That's where my heart is turning ever
That's where the old folks stay
All up and down the whole creation,
Sadly I roam
Still longing for the old plantation
And for the old folks at home
Chorus:
All the world is sad and dreary everywhere I roam
Oh darkies, how my heart grows weary
Far from the old folks at home

Release of Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.0

http://www.spybot.com/en/index.html

Some of the features include:

Improved Scan Speed
Reported a few weeks ago as one of the big issues users face, Spybot-S&D 1.6 integrates parts of the future 2.0 file scanning engine to speed up the on-demand scan.

Up-to-date browser support
Both immunization and the on-demand scan are able to access a dozen different browsers, which now include the latest revisions of the most popular ones, Firefox and Opera.

Easier On-Access Use
Until now, our on-access part was able to block bad entries, but at the same time, confused many novice users by asking for confirmation on changes of other monitored system entries as well. While this is a great feature for all experienced users who want full control over their systems, we decided that we need to make this easier for the average user, and integrated automated decisions based on the system entry database built through our RunAlyzer, containing more than quarter of a million decisions.

OpenSBI
Safer Networking also announces OpenSBI, our attempt at opening up the fight against malware to anyone who wants to participate. OpenSBI means we've published documentation and tools that anyone can use to create their own malware detection patterns for use with Spybot-S&D, and share those with other Spybot-S&D users.
+ Diversity - everyone can create detection templates for any software, without depending on a central authority to acknowledge its threat.
+ Neutrality - we cannot be bought to remove detections from our database, but if you do not believe us, you can simply publish your own rules against some malware.
+ Continuity - OpenSBI ensures that you'll get updates as long as someone is interested in updating the database (which does not mean we intend to do less work in adding new detections).
+ Flexibility - as a system administrator using the network edition, you can make sure that working time is not wasted by employees playing the latest Moorhuhn clone if you add your own detection for it. Keep in mind that some relaxation is said to even improve work results.

And quite a lot more bug fixes and new features, which can be found on bug tracker.

Nagging JULY 5 2008

Marriage vows or not, there are some few things I simply can't tolerate. Nagging is one.I hate women that nag with a passion.Nagging has bad effect on the children than divorce. I register my displeasure on my wife nagging marthons.

WKL commented on Wednesday that I am the cause of many Wee's family unhappiness. Maybe the Wees should pass a "resolution" to allow me to divorce my wife then. Will they be happy therafter ?? Is that what they want ?? I hate to be the cause of any family unhappiness.

I'm a lonely man, I'll admit it. Lonely and living in a make-believe world is unfair. Now that I found myself approaching the fall of my bloody life. Memories are crisp. The happy moments strong but few; these make the loneliness of my present life so much harder to live on .

Windows XP Support Extended until 2014

http://www.techtree.com/India/News/Windows_XP_Support_Extended_until_2014/551-90615-580.html dated 25 June 2008

Microsoft has finally given in to public demand. The company has decided to offer technical support for Windows XP with updates and security patches for an extended period until April 2014. However, it will not go back on its decision to discontinue Windows XP sales after June 30.
This means that after June 30, Microsoft will stop distributing Windows XP as a stand-alone product, as well as stop licensing it to PC manufacturers like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and others. However, it doesn't mean that XP will disappear overnight. Consumers may still find copies of the software or computers pre-loaded with it for months, as stores and PC makers typically work through their inventories.

Also, as per an announcement made at Computex earlier this month, the software giant said that 'nettops' better defined as PCs with limited hardware or ultra-low cost PCs will be available with Windows XP until January 2009.

Additionally, under another program, Microsoft is allowing customers to downgrade Vista systems to XP through a loophole in the company's licensing terms. So those purchasing a copy of Vista will also be able to run XP at no additional cost.

Microsoft's move to extend the deadline for technical support is primarily influenced by large business customers, who haven't yet upgraded their systems to Windows Vista. The companies have been reluctant to switch to Vista due to the costs and heavy system requirements involved. So, large business customers might just skip Vista and continue with XP until the release of Windows 7, which is scheduled for release in 2010.
